Beats by Dr. Dre Solo Headphones from MonsterThe Beats by Dr. Dre Solo Headphones from Monster offer a killer, travel-friendly design that's sure to turn heads, but the audio quality fails to live up to the price tag.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:03 >> It can be reasonably argued that if any layman could get involved with the manufacture of headphones, it should be a musician. Monster sure thinks so anyway, as evidenced by the ever-expanding line of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones from the Cable manufacturer. I'm Jasmine France, and I'm here with the latest addition to the line, the Beats Solo headphones. As you can see, this set follows the tradition of others in the line with its ultra styling and slick design, and I'm not just talking about the look here. These things feel high quality. The earcups, which are on-ear and much more compact than the original Beats, feature soft padding and pivot easily but securely in their circular base. And of course, you have the signature Beats logo here on the outside of the earcup. The headband is constructed of sturdy metal and coated with a soft, matte plastic with a bit of padding at the top to help with comfort. You also get the Dr. Dre logo stamped across the outer edge along the top. As with any portable model worth its salt, the Beats Solo headphones fold down for compact storage, and Monster includes this handy, hard sided carrying case for storage and transport. Finally, you have the signature Monster cable, which is coated in extra-thick, red rubber and features a module with a mic, a volume rocker, and a call answer button that doubles as iPod playback controls. The cable is removable and attaches to the left earcup like so. Unfortunately, the Beats Solo headphones don't quite live up to their $180.00 price tag in the sound quality department. Overall, audio sounds muffled, muddy, and mushy, thanks to a super overpowering low end. Still, they do make your ears vibrate, which may be enough of an appeal for those who find the superb design of the phones irresistible. I'm Jasmine France, and this has been a First Look at the Beats, by Dr. Dre, Solo headphones. ^M00:01:36 [ Music ]
