CNET First Look
Amped Wireless Ally Plus is an excellent Wi-Fi systemPractice isn't the only way to make perfect: CNET's Dong Ngo explains what the Amped Wireless Ally Plus Wi-Fi system can do for your music.
[MUSIC] Hi guys this is the ALLY Plus WiFi System from AMPED Wireless. Now, ALLY Plus because it includes this router right here its called ALLY plus this extender right here. Now they look similar but they actually very very different. If you live in a small home this router here is probably enough it cost 180$, but if you live in a larger home you may want to get the ALLY Plus Set includes both of them for $300. Now, it doesn't matter which you choose the set up involve only this router. And when you're done with this one, you are done. If you have the extender too which is you have to place some 40 feet away, plug into power and that's it. It's pre programmed to work with the router it accompanies and would automatically replicate the Wi-Fi setting of the router So in short, the set up process is really short, shorter than that of the Google wi-fi or the arrow or the luma. Yep, that short. And by the way, this is the very first wi-fi system I've ever seen that come with both the mobile apps and the web interface. The mobile apps like that of other wi-fi system, is fun and easy to use. You can use it from anywhere to check on your home network, fields of content Pause Internet, and even turn on the protection for the entire network. So yeah, it's great for home user. On the other hand, the web interface allows you to customize the home network more deeply, with features such as quality control, dynamic DNS, and even network storage sharing. Basically in my testing, it can cover some 4,000 square feet of residential setting with the sustain local Wi-Fi speed faster than 100 Mega bit per second. Now that is faster than most other Wi-Fi system I ever tested and most importantly faster than any typical residential broadband connection Now the ALLY Plus is not perfect though. For one, it does not have a third dedicated band for backhaul, the job of connecting this two in it together wirelessly. And that means device is connected to the extender would have the Speed. Just half of that compared with those connected directly to the router. That's called signal loss, which happened when a bend on the extender had to do both the receiving and rebroadcasting the signal at the same time. So, this is an excellent wi-fi system. It's not perfect, but hey, neither am I. Which is why I did what I always do to rectify that. [BLANK_AUDIO] I got two of them. And now, I'm perfect. And that's because I'm [UNKNOWN] and these are the Ally Plus WiFi Systems from Amped Wireless.
