As a way to expand beyond home rentals, the Airbnb site is adding ways to book tours and activities during your trip.
Airbnb can help you find a place to stay during your vacation, and now it can also find things for you to do during your vacation. Airbnb is a site for finding a home to rent, and now it wants to be your Full service travel agent. For starters, visitors can now use the site to book personalized tours and excursions. The Experience section offers adventures you can participate in, such as surfing lessons or. Learning about history in a town. Experiences are under $200. And they're coming to 12 major cities around the world, with 50 more being added next year. Another section called Places is where local residents offer tips and recommendations for travelers, and also offer meet ups. Kinda like a tour. This is also where people can make restaurant reservations. Down the line, Airbnb wants to add airline flights, car rentals, and services like grocery delivery. So why expand like this? Well, ever since Airbnb has challenged the hotel industry, the site has been fighting with regulators in major cities around the globe. This past Tuesday, San Francisco Passed a law that caps all short term home rentals in the city at 60 days a year. So hosts can't rent out their rooms all year long. Since Airbnb takes a cut of each rental, rules like that are hurting the service's growth. So it has to expand With different types of offerings.
