Airblock is a drone you make, break and make againFresh from a successful Kickstarter last November, this modular drone snaps together into a variety of designs.
It's tough to stand out in the crowded consumer drone market, but this definitely does. It's the Airblock from Makeblock, a DIY robotics learning platform. The modular drone uses magnetic connectors to snap together to form a hexicopter But you can just as easily pull apart to form other designs. You fly it with a mobile app using joystick controls or drag and drop blocks of code to program the drone flight. The body is made from lightweight chrome that protects propeller blades. So if it does crash, nothing should get hurt And again, the design is made to break apart. [UNKNOWN] says the flight time's about six minutes which is normal for a copter this size and the battery is removable so you can keep building and flying. The Air Block is expected to ship to its Kickstarter factories in February but after that will be available for $199.
