Velocity Micro has announced three Android-based tablets due out in August and September of 2010. The Cruz Reader (shown here) is an e-book-focused tablet priced at $199. The Cruz StoryPad (not shown) is a similar product geared toward children and priced at $149. Those looking for an alternative to the iPad will be most interested in the Cruz Tablet, a $299 device with a 7-inch capacitive touch screen.
The bottom of the Cruz Reader includes ports for power and headphones. An SD card slot is also included, allowing users to add memory in addition to the 256Mb of integrated storage. A 2GB SD card comes included.
The Cruz Tablet offers a similar design to the Cruz Reader, but includes many upgraded features and a higher price ($299). At the core, however, both products run the same Android OS.
One of the primary features that distinguish the Cruz Tablet is the use of a capacitive, multitouch screen, similar to the Apple iPad. The improved screen technology should help with touch-screen sensitivity and input latency.
