The LG Optimus Slider is essentially the Virgin Mobile version of the LG Enlighten, which is out for Verizon Wireless. Like all the other Optimus handsets introduced in the U.S., the LG Optimus Slider is meant as an entry-level Android phone. But that doesn't mean it's bad--quite the contrary, in fact. We're impressed that the Optimus Slider has Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and a fairly vanilla Android interface.

While the LG Optimus handsets have largely been touch-screen only, the Optimus Slider introduces a physical keyboard into the mix. We have to say we like it; the keyboard felt roomy and the keys are raised so you can type quickly and easily.

The Optimus Slider has a 3.5mm headset jack and power button on the top.

While Virgin Mobile does preinstall a few apps on to the LG Optimus Slider--like the Virgin Mobile Live 2.0 app, for example--the overall interface is pretty pure to the native Gingerbread interface. That's good news for Android purists.

On the back of the Optimus Slider is a 3.2-megapixel camera. The battery cover on the back has a matte soft-touch finish.
