King's Landing from 'Game of Thrones,' Minecraft-style (pictures)
What happens when you combine a sandbox-style building video game and a hundred dedicated fans of the HBO television series "Game of Thrones"? Epic creations, to say the least.
The Minecraft server WesterosCraft houses an enormous recreation of a major locale in "Thrones" known as King's Landing, the capital city of the Seven Kingdoms. The Minecraft version of the city houses around 3,000 unique buildings and took about 100 people over four months to build.
To the left, the large white building ringed by towers is the religious center called the Great Sept of Baelor. Royalty lives within the buildings of the Red Keep castle, as seen on the right near the rocky coast.
This spectacular angle of the WesterosCraft version of King’s Landing shows several large ships floating on the Blackwater Rush River, which leads past the harbor adjacent to the River/Mud gate. To the right, a glimpse at the Red Keep castle.
This is a nice zoom into the Dragonpit. In the "A Song of Ice and Fire" (aka "Game of Thrones") saga, the Targaryen race once raised and housed dragons within the DragonPit. According to the lore, a fire destroyed the building and its dome.
A closer view shows the detail in the ruins of the Dragonpit within King's Landing at WesterosCraft. Note the elaborate detail in the various buildings nearby. Fans of the series, can you spot Chataya?
