Originally released for Europe and Asia, the HTC Wildfire is coming to regional carriers in North America in Q4. Alltel is the first to bring the budget-friendly Android smartphone to the U.S. It's available now for $29.99 with a two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate.

The Wildfire runs Android 2.1 with HTC Sense and offers full wireless options and a 5-megapixel camera. However, the trade off for the cheap price tag is a slower 528MHz processor and a smaller, lower-resolution touch screen.

The Wildfire has a compact design, measuring just 4.6 inches tall by 2.4 inches wide by 0.5 inch thick. Though petite, the phone has a very solid build.

On the handset's left spine, you'll find a volume rocker and a Micro-USB port.

The top of the smartphone houses the 3.5mm headphone jack and power button.

The HTC Wildfire offers a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and video recording.

The picture quality was mediocre. Though we could make out the objects in the images just fine, the photos could have been sharper and more vibrant.
