This adventure role-playing game not only has an adventure to complete, but lets you play through the history of adventure games as graphics and control systems evolve throughout the game.
Not everyone will remember the early RPG games, but there wasn't a lot of color or detail. Play from the beginnings of adventure gaming as you slowly unlock new tech.
After you've crossed into the color world, you'll also unlock things like the music and storyline.
Early on you'll unlock turn-based combat where you'll touch the attack button, then touch the enemy to attack. People who played Pokemon and several other games will recognize this mechanic.
As you progress, you'll unlock a village where you'll find an inn and a shop. The graphics get incrementally better as you play.
Soon you switch into a very bare-bones 3D mode. It looks much more crisp, but there aren't really any textures.
A later unlock will show the grass on the ground, waterways, and a little more detail all around.
A little later, the turn-based combat adds more elements with better-looking backgrounds and an addition to your team for more attacks.
Still further in the game you'll unlock dynamic and ambient lighting, and all details become much more realisitic.
Later, the turn-based combat goes to a 3D view. The backgrounds become HD and the look is much better.
Finally, you will graduate to full action combat against multiple monsters. Notice the potions and gold dropping on the ground as it might in modern games like Diablo 3.
Certain areas in the gameworld require you to switch between eras to solve puzzles. In this slide, you have the older look, but by hitting the blue gemstone you can switch to the modern era.
In this screenshot, you can see I'm in the same location, but it has now switched to a more modern 3D.
