YouTube Red is moving into Hollywood territory with its latest round of original programming.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's company Seven Bucks Productions will coproduce the eight-episode "Lifeline" about a time-traveling insurance agent. "Impulse," from director Doug Liman, will follow a young girl who can teleport out of danger. Dan Harmon, who produced the "Community" TV series, will deliver a scripted comedy series about a new e-sports team.
Susanne Daniels, YouTube's global head of content, announced the newest YouTube Red Originals series Monday at the Mipcom entertainment conference in Cannes, France.
"Over the last year, we've seen our Original series become one of the leading drivers of YouTube Red subscriptions, with viewership that rivals cable shows in the US," Daniels said in a keynote speech. "YouTube is all in on Originals."
Subscribers to the $10-a-month service can watch all of YouTube's videos ad-free, as well as save videos to their phones or tablets to watch offline. YouTube Red's exclusive original shows and movies feature top YouTube talent, including Joey Graceffa, PewDiePie and the Fine Brothers.
