Xerox to boost Adobe's PDF standard

Software maker Adobe Systems and printing giant Xerox announced a partnership Tuesday to promote printing industry standards, including XML (Extensible Markup Language) and Adobe's PDF (Portable Document Format). Related Adobe technologies will be included in Xerox's FreeFlow Digital Workflow Collection, a set of products intended to ensure the orderly flow of documents through the printing process.

"Industry standards are critically important in variable information and print-on-demand production workflows," Gil Hatch, president of Xerox's production systems group, said in a statement. "We will work together to develop solutions that enable creators, producers and all other participants in the print value chain to capture the rich opportunities available through digital technologies." Adobe is in the midst of an ambitious campaign to dramatically expand the use of PDF.
