I'm so excited for season four of "Game of Thrones," I practically want to send a messenger raven to everyone I know -- and then warg out so I can see what it's like being a delivery bird in 2014.
Then again, it might just be easier to put on some "Game of Thrones" jewelry.
For the premiere Sunday, Vancouver-based jewelry designer Pyrrha has teamed with HBO to produce a collection of handcrafted pieces, including necklaces that pay homage to the various houses of Westeros.
The talisman for the "mercurial, competitive, and powerful" House Baratheon, for example, features a crowned black stag and reads "Ours is the Fury."
"Practical, loyal, and traditional" House Stark gets a talisman bearing the image of a direwolf and the words (wait for it...) "Winter is Coming." One guess which creature adorns the House Targaryen piece.
The necklaces come in sterling silver or bronze with talismen measuring about 1x1 inch.
Pyhrra's "Game of Thrones" collection also includes vintage-looking rings, earrings, and bracelets and will be available at the HBO Shop, Pyrrha's site, and select retailers starting Friday. Prices range from $98 to $900, with the necklaces honoring the feuding houses up for preorder now for $226. Choose one or get a bunch to swap out according to your shifting allegiances.
Designers Wade Papin and Danielle Wilmor started their Pyrrha Talisman collection after discovering a dusty old box of damaged 19th century wax seals.
"Designing jewelry from them was inspired by a desire to give the fragile waxes new life and permanence," they say. "Because we live in such a throwaway society, it's necessary to create some things that can be kept."
Talismen are generally thought to be objects that ward off evil and bring good fortune. I can think of a few characters who badly needed one last time we left them (get one around Theon Greyjoy's neck stat!).
