Watch a satellite get launched into space

The Atlas V rocket has just launched a satellite into space, and you can watch it live streaming on YouTube.

United Launch Alliance

This morning, United Launch Alliance's Atlas V 551 rocket launched a US Navy satellite into orbit. The launch was live-streamed, and you can rewatch the spectacular blast off in the video above.

The Atlas V rocket successfully launched at 10:30 a.m. ET on Friday from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. It was carrying the MUOS-5 Satellite, a military satellite that will offer global communications assistance to the US Navy, according to a release.

This is ULA's seventh mission using a rocket in the "551 configuration," the most power rocket in the Atlas V fleet. It produces more than two and a half million pounds of thrust at liftoff. Atlas V 551 rockets have been used to launch the four previous MUOS satellites, as well as science missions including NASA's New Horizons probe and the Juno spacecraft.
