Following big announcements about a remastered Skyrim and sci-fi first person shooter Prey, Bethesda vice president of PR and Marketing Pete Hines had one more atomic bombshell to drop. In 2017, a virtual reality version of the post-apocalyptic RPG Fallout 4will be coming to the HTC Vive.

He took to the stage late in the company's showcase at E3 2016 to make the announcement. Hines said that Bethesda, most famous for immersive, open-world RPGs, believes that the best VR gaming has to offer will be, well, immersive, open-world RPGs. Given the hours that players have spent wandering the wasteland, he's not too far off the mark.

It's quite the get for HTC's Vive as competition heats up with the Facebook-backed Oculus for VR dominance.

In addition to Fallout 4, Bethesda was also offering fans at the Los Angeles show hands-on time with a VR Doom experience at the BE3 Plus event, in case you needed a quick visit to hell as a reprieve from the show floor.
