Vivendi closes Houghton-Mifflin buy

Vivendi Universal said it has completed its $2.2 billion acquisition of educational publisher Houghton-Mifflin. Vivendi said Boston-based Houghton-Mifflin is now a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Vivendi and has been delisted from the New York Stock Exchange. Vivendi said it purchased Houghton-Mifflin shares at $60 per share. Vivendi Universal's acquisition of Houghton-Mifflin is part of the company's plan to expand its content. The French media giant said the acquisition enhances its position in education publishing and the U.S. textbook market. In May, Vivendi Universal said it will buy online music company MP3.com for about $372 million in cash and stock.
