Tom Clancy's The Division has been a huge success for Ubisoft -- making $330 million in its first five days after launching in March this year and breaking company sales records in the process.

Ubisoft hopes it can make lightning strike twice, with a film based on the new video game franchise in development, according to Variety.

The publication reported that sources have said that Jake Gyllenhaal is attached to the project in a leading role. Gyllenhaal is no stranger to video game adaptions -- starring in 2010's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." Ubisoft's last foray into Hollywood remains the highest grossing film based on a video game.

The Division begins in the weeks after New York City is ravaged by a man-made virus. Players step into the boots of Strategic Homeland Division agents, tasked with preserving order and investigating the cause of the deadly outbreak.
