A double-helping of phone news for UK shoppers this morning -- two new Samsung smartphones have been given UK release dates, while Amazon tries a radical move to drum up sales of its Fire Phone.

The Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 , both of which have metal frames, will hit shop shelves on 12 February. The A3 sports a 4.5-inch display, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for high-res selfies and a 1.2GHz quad-core processor. The A5 has a larger 5-inch display, also counting among its charms a 13-megapixel rear camera.

Both feature similar metal edging to that which we first saw -- and loved -- on the Samsung Galaxy Alpha last year. Traditionally, Samsung has been best-known for its reliance on plastic when it comes to building its mobiles, but if the thought of a metal mobile is more appealing, Samsung says you'll be able to try out the A3 and A5 in its Samsung Experience Stores from today.

Amazon Fire Phone has price meltdown

Meanwhile, Amazon has slashed the price of its Fire Phone to £99, for today only. We were rather unimpressed with Amazon's first entry in the phone market, so be sure you read our full review before throwing down your cash, even at this cut-down price.
