Service has mostly resumed for Twitter after a widespread outage Tuesday.
Both Web-based and mobile services were affected, with some users seeing nothing more than a landing page stating:
"Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing, we will fix it up and have things back to normal soon."
The outage struck a number of locations around the globe, including Europe, the US and Japan. According to the outage-monitoring service Down Detector, problems were recorded starting at 8:27 a.m. London time, at which time they were focused on the United Kingdom, France and Germany.
The microblogging site, which counts 320 million active monthly users, has had its share of outages in the past, always to the consternation those who value it as a go-to service for breaking news and real-time commentary.
Twitter now seems to be back in full service at most locations, but as of this writing, the company's status page still reads: "Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."
On Monday, some Twitter users experienced service disruptions during a 10-minute span through both the mobile and Web platforms, but the issue appeared to be resolved. There is no word yet whether this is the same problem impacting the service.
Twitter declined to comment, pointing instead to its status page.
