The Republican National Convention comes to Cleveland this week, but noticeably absent will be the support of several major tech companies, including HP, Apple and Motorola. The decisions were a big victory for online activists ColorOfChange and Credo Action, which used social media to push the companies to avoid backing Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

We also discuss SoftBank's massive acquisition deal for ARM Holdings, as well as Kanye West's beef with Taylor Swift playing out on Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng, Senior Writer Ben Fox Rubin and Producer Bryan VanGelder.
