Toshiba cuts notebook prices

Toshiba has slashed prices across its notebook lines, discounting computers with some of the newest and fastest processors.

Toshiba is discounting selected models in its Satellite, Tecra, and Portege notebook lines. The company, which had swapped places with Compaq Computer in the top two slots in the notebook market earlier last year, regained the No. 1 position for the fourth quarter. Toshiba accounted for 17.6 percent of all notebook shipments last quarter.

Toshiba today cut prices on its Satellite 4080XCDT from $3,199 to $2,999. It comes with a 366-MHz Intel Pentium II processor, 14.1-inch active matrix display, and 6.4GB hard drive

The Satellite 4060CDT with 333-MHz Pentium II was reduced by $200 to $2,499, and the Satellite 4020CDT with 300-MHz Pentium II was reduced by $200 to $2,299.

Toshiba's ultra-slim high-end Portege 3010CT with 266-MHz MMX processor, 10.4-inch active matrix display, and 4.3GB hard drive was reduced from $1,799 to $1,599.

Toshiba's corporate notebook, the Tecra 8000, with 366-MHz Pentium II, 14.1-inch display, 8GB hard drive, and DVD-ROM drive was reduced from $4,499 to $4,299.
