As previously reported by CNET News.com, Ticketmaster's new wireless unit will be responsible for tailoring the company's online ticketing services to wireless products, such as the PalmPilot, or to Wireless Application Protocol products, such as Web-enabled cell phones, the company said.
Pasadena, Calif.-based Ticketmaster is banking that wireless products will be a boon, the company said.
"We see the next phase of Internet growth to be wireless," said Paul LaFotaine, the company's vice president of corporate development. "We see our content transactions as being useful applications in that growth."
In the past six months, Ticketmaster has teamed with wireless companies such as AvantGo, Nokia and Palm. Currently, Ticketmaster is featured on the Palm VII, which means its customers can buy tickets via the handheld device.
