Thinnest (and lightest) large tablets

How thin can tablets get? CNET looks at the thinnest large tablets.

Even if you only want your tablet to be powerful and pragmatic, you have to admit that a thin tablet has its advantages. Thin tablets, after all, are slimmer, sexier and easier to handle. Also, their sleek profiles don't necessarily preclude them from including plenty of useful connections.

Because they're so thin, all tablets on this list are also the lightest on the market. I've gone only with large tablets -- 9 inches and above -- so if you're looking for a smaller slate, take a look at these skinny-minis.

Sony Xperia Z4

This tablet is a little old, having come out in 2015, but the Sony Xperia Z4 is still one of the most lightweight tablets around. The 10-incher features a sharp and bright 2K screen, and it's the only tablet that has a waterproof body. Accident-prone shoppers, take note!

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 isn't as thin or light as the 2016 model, but it's still incredibly sleek. It features a Super OLED screen that's HDR-ready, meaning it's probably a better-quality screen than your TV has. It's one of the best-looking Android tablets we've seen and Samsung packages it with a handy S Pen stylus for easy note-taking or drawing.

Apple iPad Pro 10.5

Apple just released a "goldilocks" version of the iPad Pro. This 10.5-inch variant is slightly smaller than the 12-inch version, but big enough to make it a better buy over the now-discontinued 9.7-inch . Despite the bigger screen, it's just as trim and compact as the previous model.

Huawei has a new MateBook coming out soon.

Huawei MateBook

Huawei is right on Apple's heels when it comes to slick design. The company's MateBook is a Windows tablet packed inside the body of something that looks more like an iPad. There's a new model coming out soon that includes the keyboard cover in its base price, so if you're interested, you might want to hold off a bit.
