The Onion finds home on Rackspace

The satirical newspaper The Onion has shifted its Web publishing operations to Rackspace, according to the San Antonio-based hosting service provider. The Onion publishes 49 times a year and receives 1.5 million visitors a month. Until recently, the publication had largely been managing its own servers. Under the new contract, Rackspace is running The Onion with nine Linux servers and a load balancer to manage the site's traffic patterns. Existing customers include Microsoft, BobVila.com and Hearst Publications, according to the hosting company.
