The second movie in a trilogy is almost always awful, and serves only to connect the events in the first film with those in the finale. But a new teaser trailer for "Insurgent," the second movie in the "Divergent" series, has us cautiously optimistic that this sequel might actually be pretty good.
For the uninitiated, the "Divergent" trilogy is a dystopian science fiction book series set in a futuristic Chicago. Tris and Four (played by Shailene Woodley and Theo James) don't fit into any of the many factions of the new world, and are therefore considered a threat to the Erudite elites who set out to exterminate the protagonists. In "Insurgent," Tris and Four are now fugitives on the run from the Erudites, and must find out the secrets Tris' parents took with them to the grave in order to learn the truth about their society.
The clip, in which Tris tries to save what is likely a memory or dream of her mother from a burning building (that's also flying through the air), shows that "Insurgent" will likely be just as action-packed as the first film in the series. Here's hoping that it's just as good as "Divergent," and is one of the rare movie sequels to be actually halfway decent.
"Insurgent" is set to hit theaters worldwide beginning March 18, 2015, coming to Australia on March 19, and the UK and the US on March 20. It will be followed by "Allegiant: Part 1" and "Allegiant: Part 2" in March 2016 and 2017, respectively.
