Sweet strawberries in slices

Strawberries can be slippery to slice, but the Strawberry Slicester can make short work of your fruit.

The Strawberry Slicester
The Strawberry Slicester Sur la Table

One of my favorite summertime treats is a strawberry rhubarb pie, followed closely by a strawberry pie without the rhubarb. But I don't always have the patience to stand and slice enough strawberries for a pie. At best, I may chop up the fruit and just not worry about the appearance. The Strawberry Slicester offers an alternative, however--and it's one that provides pretty sliced strawberries for my pies without my needing to stand around with a knife. I don't have to worry about the strawberries sliding around on the cutting board and even the juice is easier to contain. The Strawberry Slicester is especially handy if you have some help in the kitchen too young to handle a knife.

The Strawberry Slicester uses stainless steel blades to slice through strawberries. All you need to do is drop a strawberry into the slicer and squeeze. The handle is plastic and easy to handle. You can squeeze it with one hand without a problem. The Strawberry Slicester makes for easy cleanup, as well: you can slice your fruit over the sink, and when you're done, the slicer can go in the dishwasher. The Strawberry Slicester is $15.
