Survey Reveals Dissatisfied PC Users

Turns out you're not the only one who had to install Aladdin for your PC-impaired neighbor next door.

A survey of 8,000 readers conducted by PC Magazine revealed that 28 percent needed help getting their PCs to work within the first year of ownership. And when they finally called their PC vendors for technical support, most were not pleased with the results.

Out of 35 PC vendors, 22 received a grade of C or D for service and product reliability. Compaq, IBM, and Hewlett-Packard aced the survey with A's, but Zenith Data Systems, CompuAdd, and Unisys practically flunked with D's.

The survey also ranked companies on their average hold times for customer support calls. Packard-Bell ranked last, with an average wait time of 15.7 minutes.
