Supercomputing center gets new head

Francine Berman has been named director of the San Diego Supercomputing Center and a supercomputing program it runs, the National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure. Berman has been a computer science professor at the University of California at San Diego since 1984 and was involved in the development of both supercomputing projects.She replaces Sid Karin, director of the center since its founding 16 years ago. He will return to research as a professor of computer science and engineering.
