Close those spreadsheets, take your phone off the hook, and forget all about the demands of your employer. It's time to cast your votes in our spectacular Greatest Gadget of the 21st Century tournament.

By now, you should have made your predictions as to which gadget will be crowned king, thereby earning yourself a chance of winning an Xbox 360 Slim with the Kinect motion-control gaming system. But don't fear if you haven't made any predictions -- you can still start voting.

Voting will take place in five rounds over the next five weeks. This week, you'll need to vote in the first round, deciding which gadget lights up your LEDs the brightest in each of 16 head-to-head contests. Next week, you'll have to vote in eight face-offs, and so on, until we have a champ. The more times you vote over the course of the tournament, the more chance you'll have of winning some red-hot technological treats in our grand prize draw.

Up for grabs are an Arcam rCube, a BlackBerry Bold 9700, a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and a MiFi from Three or one of ten Idapt i4 multi-gadget chargers.

Feel aggrieved about the outcome of the HD format war? Then vote for the Toshiba XE1 HD DVD player over the Sony S470 Blu-ray player. Think Robosapien has done more for humanity than the iPhone? Cast your vote accordingly. Then tell your milkman, and anyone else who'll listen, to do the same.

If you need help making up your mind, you can find out which gadgets our editors think deserve the title. Flora is championing the iPhone, Luke the Nintendo DS, Charles the iPod and Rory the, er, USB stick

For more details on the competition, visit our FAQ page. Then head to the tournament page to vote like you've never voted before. Good luck!
