Sony tops digital camera survey

Consumer electronics giant Sony remains on top of the U.S. digital camera market, according to a survey released Wednesday by research firm IDC. U.S. shipments of point-and-shoot digital camera totaled 1.5 million for the first quarter of 2002, according to the report, a 60 percent increase from the 950,000 units shipped in the same period a year ago. Sony accounted for 23 percent of shipments, followed by Olympus with 17 percent market share and Kodak with a 16 percent share.
