SmartDisk unleashes new flash readers

Naples, Fla.-based SmartDisk has unveiled flash-memory readers for four types of removable storage: CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick and Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard. By attaching one of these readers to a PC, people can transfer files created on digital cameras, digital camcorders, handheld computers and other digital devices--as opposed to having to hook the digital device to a PC via a cable. The readers, which come with USB cables, cost $39 each. All are expected to reach stores in late July, except for the Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard reader, which is expected to ship in the fourth quarter.
