Sling brings the film festival to you with Fandor Festival

Boasting more than 300 indie films and documentaries, Sling's Hollywood Extra package wants to broaden your horizons.

David Katzmaier/CNET

Sling TV is hoping to make cutting the cord more appealing to movie buffs.

Starting today, you'll be able to watch more than 300 indie films from festivals such as Cannes, Sundance and SXSW on Sling TV, thanks to its new integration with Fandor Festival. The independent films and documentaries included as part of Fandor Festival will be available to Sling TV customers who pay an extra $5 a month for the Hollywood Extra package.

You can add Hollywood Extra on top of either of Sling's cheapest base packages: Sling Orange, which is $20 a month, or Sling Blue, which is $25. Sling TV, a Dish Network subsidiary, lets you stream live TV and avoid a cable subscription while doing so. Head here for the details on Sling.

Sling is also adding four new Starz channels to its $9 a month Starz subscription: a kids and family channel, an action movie channel, a comedy channel and a channel dedicated to Westerns.

Even without any of these subscriptions, Fandor will be adding five free movies a month to Sling's base packages. It's nice to see Sling TV offering a variety of movies, no matter what level of service you've signed up for.
