Singapore server sales sag

Sales of Intel-based servers in Singapore declined more than 40 percent during the second quarter of 2001 from the preceding quarter, according to a report from researcher Dataquest. Intel-based servers accounted for $10.17 million in sales in the quarter, down 40 percent from the first quarter and 23.7 percent from same period a year ago. Unix-based servers chalked up $23.36 million in gross sales in Singapore, 19.4 percent lower than the first quarter and 29.2 percent below a year ago. Dataquest attributed the decline to corporations delaying spending as they wait out the economic slowdown. A Dataqust report released last week detailed a less severe decline in U.S. server sales.
