Short Take: Token Ring technology gets boost

Token Ring technology will get new life via a consortium called the High-Speed Token Ring Alliance, which intends to take the 4- and 16-mbps network pipe and rev it to speeds of 100 mbps and 1 gigabit. The alliance will work on a 100-mbps draft specification to be submitted to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers at a November meeting. Members of the consortium include 3Com, Cisco Systems, Bay Networks, Cabletron Systems, IBM, and Madge Networks.
