Oracle announced it will double its applications software sales force to approximately 2,000 people to challenge SAP in the enterprise resource planning market. Oracle's business management software sales totaled $562 million in fiscal 1998, up 15 percent from fiscal 1997, but the database giant still trails SAP and faces stiff competition from Baan and PeopleSoft.
