High-end networking start-up Optical Networks said it has raised $34 million in funding and will roll out its hardware and software technology for metropolitan fiber-based networks next month. The company is attempting combine optical and data technology in a system that is expected to enter trials in the second half of this year, with shipments due in 2000.
