Short Take: Nine million cable modems in 2003, study says

Nearly 9 million U.S. households will subscribe to a high-speed cable modem Internet access service by 2003, up from 1.3 million users by the end of 1999, according to a study released by International Data Corporation. Cable modem service revenue will jump to $2.6 billion by 2003 from $421.9 million this year, the study showed. Recent IDC studies show 9.3 million residential customers will use a competing digital subscriber line (DSL) by 2003.
