Short Take: Net telephony coalition holds tech event

Some 20 hardware and software firms touted their online telephony wares in Boston Monday. Participants, which include Cisco, Intel, Lucent, and Microsoft, are promoting a new protocol for Net telephony called H.323. The Voice on the Net Coalition, which helped organize the event, claims the technology will allow different computer platforms to communicate with each other seamlessly, a feature currently lacking in Net telephony.
