Short Take: Microsoft to phase out Windows 3.1

Microsoft will phase out production of Windows 3.1 for the retail market but continue to sell Windows for Workgroups in that space, the Redmond, Washington, company announced. It will continue to sell 3.1 and Workgroups, both 16-bit operating systems, to volume license customers through the Select and MOLP licensing programs. Microsoft also said it would continue to sell 16-bit applications.
