Short Take: Microsoft schedules release of SQL Server 2000 beta

Microsoft will release in April a second beta version of its next-generation database software, called SQL Server 2000. Among its new features is "partitioning," or the ability to divide the workload across multiple servers. The software maker expects to ship the final version this summer and is already working on a newer, faster database code-named Yukon, company executives said.
