Lycos released Media Metrix figures showing that the Waltham, Massachusetts, network of Web sites has passed long-time portal leader Yahoo in terms of audience reach. Lycos garnered 51.8 percent reach in March 1999, topping Yahoo's 50.8 percent, the company said, capping strong growth it attributed to buying such established Net properties as Tripod. Reach, the measurement of the proportion of Net users who view a given site, is an important yardstick for sites that depend on ad revenues.
