Short Take: Lucent and Chartered Semiconductor to open Singapore facility

Lucent Technologies Microelectronics and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing have formed a $1 billion-plus joint venture in Singapore to manufacture integrated circuits. Called Silicon Manufacturing Partners, the venture will employ about 800 people and will make integrated circuits. Lucent will own 51 percent of the company, and both companies will share production output, which is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
