Short Take: Legato delivers Java-based storage management

Legato Systems announced its intentions to deliver a Java-based storage management product called the Global Enterprise Management of Storage (GEMS) by the second quarter of next year. The product will leverage Java applets to administrate, configure, and monitor a wide array of storage devices--from tape libraries to disk arrays--with one product. The initial GEMS product will also include a Web-based interface. Legato will integrate into the product third-party technologies from companies such as Silicon Graphics as well.
