Short Take: Ingram Micro expands South American reach

Ingram Micro has entered into an agreement with Empresas Quintec S.A. to acquire the leading Chilean computer products distributor, Computacion Tecnica, S.A. (Computek), and its affiliated companies. Computek distributes products from leading U.S. manufacturers, including Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Microsoft, and Novell, throughout South America. Through this acquisition, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 1997, Ingram Micro will gain access to five distribution centers, two of which are located in Brazil, and one each in Chile, Peru, and Miami.
