Hitachi announced a new family of 2.5-inch disk drives for notebook PCs, including a 5.0GB model it claims has the highest capacity for its class. Two smaller drives, a 4.1GB model and a 3.2GB model, round out the line. The 4.1GB version is currently in production, while the other two will begin in the first half of 1998. Hitachi claims about 10 percent of the worldwide notebook storage market, according to International Data Corporation figures cited by Hitachi.
