Short Take: General Cable plans Net access via TV

General Cable plans to test new technology that would give its cable TV viewers access to the Internet, the company said. The company, which has networks in west London and the northern English county of Yorkshire, is in talks with WorldGate Communications of Pennsylvania and Scientific-Atlanta Europe, and plans to test the service in the U.K. early in 1998. The system would access the WorldGate Internet TV service through Scientific-Atlanta set-top boxes.
