Short Take: eHobbies to expand hobbyist categories

Niche site eHobbies.com said that on Monday it will open three new content and store areas for enthusiasts: birding, astronomy, and comics and action figures. The Santa Monica, Calif.-based start-up, backed by investment firm and incubator eCompanies Venture Group, launched its site in October 1999 focusing on categories such as trains and models. eHobbies said it plans to continually expand into new hobby markets, an industry worth an estimated $55 billion annually.
