Short Take: DSL providers aim to increase data transfer speeds

High-speed digital subscriber line providers Rhythms NetConnections and NorthPoint Communications separately unveiled new technologies to increase data transfer speeds. Rhythms expects to offer DSL download speeds of up to 12 mbps (megabits per second) as early as September by combining, or "bonding," up to eight phone lines together. NorthPoint also will use DSL bonding to double its download speeds to 3 mbps.
