Short Take: Data, telecom firms create standards group

A group of large data and telecommunications firms announced the formation of a new organization chartered to create standards for interoperability between multi-service switching hardware systems. The new standards group, called the Multi-service Switching Forum, includes Cisco Systems, MCI Worldcom, AT&T, Alcatel, and Nortel Networks, among others. The intent of the MSF is to provide standards so that systems from multiple companies will be able to inter-operate on a carrier network, according to the companies.
