Short Take: Dallas Semiconductor quarterly earnings fall short

Dallas Semiconductor reported net income of $13.4 million for its third quarter of 1998, good for earnings of 45 cents a share. Analysts had expected the company to post earnings of 47 cents a share. A year ago, Dallas Semiconductor earned $16.9 million, or 57 cents a share. In a slack market, the diversified chipmaker said shipments to North America declined slightly, while shipments to Europe and Asia declined by 20 and 19 percent, respectively.
