Short Take: Compaq announces new Ethernet switches

Compaq Computer announced two new Ethernet-based switches for workgroups. A new 5708FX 10- or 100-mbps (megabits per second) device includes eight ports for $4,779 and auto-negotiates between Ethernet speeds, depending on the user. A new 5226A switch with 24 10-mbps ports costs $2,340 and includes two 10/100-mbps uplinks. Both network switches are available now.
